Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts - Home of the Jaguars

Lubel Memorial Tennis CourtsThe Bruce David Lubel Memorial Courts have been home to the South Alabama Tennis program since 1980. Situated next to the USA Academic Support Center and Mitchell Center Parking Lot, the facility consists of two groups of four courts bisected by bleachers for spectators. In addition to the bleacher seats, fans can watch Jaguar Tennis action from the balcony of the Academic Support Center that overlooks the courts.

The Lubel Memorial Courts played host to an NCAA Women’s Tennis Regional in 2000, the first NCAA Championship event hosted on the South Alabama campus. In 2001, the Lubel Memorial Courts hosted a men’s tournament regional. Since 1993, USA has hosted the Sun Belt Conference Men’s and Women’s Championships on 12 occasions.

USA has had tremendous success on its home courts, with the women boasting a 55-match win streak before falling to VCU during the 2003 season. The women finished the 2003 season 14-1, while the men were 16-1 at the Lubel Memorial Courts.

The Jaguar women have a 228-46 (83.2%) record on their home courts since 1984 while the men sport a 177-55 (76.3%) mark since 1983.

In recent years the courts have experienced some upgrades, with the addition of a new electronic scoreboard in 2009 and branded windscreens before the 2013 season. South Alabama logos were added to the court surface and umpire chairs were replaced in 2013 as well.

In addition to the Lubel Memorial Courts, USA has also played matches at the nearby Mobile Tennis Center. The world’s largest public tennis facility with over 50 courts, the MTC has been used by the Jaguars for matches in the USA Invitational, 1999 and 2000 ITA Women’s Tennis Regional and the Sun Belt Conference Championships.
